Arsenal are preparing an £89m offer for Ousmane Dembele after Unai Emery convinced the north London club to make a last-minute move, according to reports in Spain.
The Frenchman has repeatedly been linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, with speculation reaching fever pitch when he was spotted dining with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a number of Arsenal players in London.
However, the Gunners’ hopes appeared to be dashed when he returned to Barcelona training over a week early to try and win his place in the side.
But according to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, that has not deterred Arsenal and they are ready to make one final offer to tempt Barcelona into selling.
The Gunners have already spent the majority of their transfer budget for this summer but have proposed an initial £8.9m loan fee with a mandatory clause to make the deal permanent next summer for £80.3m.
Emery is a huge fan of the young French winger and believes he can add a new and much needed dimension to Arsenal’s attacking play.
Although Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu spoke to Dembele to assure him of his future at Camp Nou, the Frenchman is still conscious of Ernesto Valverde’s lack of trust in him.
There is also the added competition of £35m signing Malcom, who joined the club from Bordeaux.
While Arsenal hope to tempt Barca with one final offer before Thursday’s Premier League deadline, they know it is a long shot, but the Catalan side may need to cash in to fund their pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.
